Deltona man says he accidentally shot daughter, wife while clearing gun

The Volusia Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man said he accidentally shot his 4-year-old daughter and wife at their Deltona home Sept. 19.

The man told deputies he was trying to clear his handgun before going to a shooting range when it accidentally went off, according to a Volusia Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.

When deputies responded to the home on Boxelder Street near Deltona High School around 9:50 a.m., they found the man carrying the girl and the mother inside with a towel wrapped around a gunshot wound to her leg, the post said.

Deputies said the girl had injuries to her chest and arm and was airlifted to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children by Air One. The woman was transported to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital.

Their conditions were unknown as of Saturday afternoon.
