Decades-old Broward swim school reopens after big changes

When franchisee Nicole Pierce Church bought British Swim School’s West Pines location in March, she expected to put in her fair share of spackling and spring cleaning. A busted air-conditioning system, mismatched shower heads and rubber flooring that would eventually send the state health department knocking were not on her radar.

One major remodel later, the decades-old southwest Broward swim school — which dates back to the ‘90s — is now one month out from its late June grand opening and the start of its two-fold mission in Pines: bringing neighbors together and slowing Florida’s ever-increasing drowning rate.

“I want it to be a space for communities and moms who want to get their kids water-safe, but also a grandma who needs to learn how to swim or a 15-year-old that didn’t learn how to swim but is getting invited to pool parties. … I want this to be an all-inclusive space for everybody,” Church said.
