Dak Prescott Honors Roger Staubach With Special Pregame Outfit Sunday

In the 1970s Roger Staubach established himself as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time, leading the Dallas Cowboys to four Super Bowl appearances and hoisting the Lombardi Trophy twice in a Hall of Fame career. This morning, Cowboys QB Dak Prescott decided to pay tribute to the legendary Cowboy.

Video from AT&T Stadium today for the Cowboys’ home opener against the rival Washington Commanders shows Dak wearing a Staubach jersey into the stadium. He was also sporting a cowboy hat and some sunglasses.

“Dak Prescott arrives to AT&T Stadium for the home opener against Washington in a Roger Staubach jersey,” ESPN’s Todd Archer wrote on X.

Can he channel the legend?

Fans on social media seem to believe that Dak is trying to channel the greatness of Staubach into his performance tonight as he tries to avoid letting the team fall into a 0-2 hole to start the season.

Unfortunately, the fans don’t seem that convinced that it will be enough:

“He could be wearing a superman uni & it won’t matter,” one fan said dismissively. “The whole team is all hat, no cattle. They’re going to be 0-2 today.”

“He could show up in a (expletive) Jesus jersey he still ain’t ever gonna win a Super Bowl,” wrote another.

“Absolute embarrassment that Dallas allows that guy to soil the great Roger,” a third wrote.

The Cowboys were stunned by the New York Giants last week, struggling to stop or even contain Giants QB Jaxson Dart. The good news is, last year the Cowboys found themselves in a similar situation: Losing their season opener on the road against a division rival before rallying to beat another division rival in their subsequent home opener.

Perhaps history will repeat itself tonight. Though if it does, it probably won’t come down to which number Dak wore into the stadium.
