Canes learn 2027 conference opponents. And how UM rookie picks did in NFL debut

The Miami Hurricanes came close to finalizing their 2027 football schedule on Wednesday when UM’s nine conference opponents were announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

As part of the new nine-game conference schedule, UM will play four ACC home games and five conference road games.

At home in 2027, UM will play California, Georgia Tech, Louisville and Virginia.

On the road in 2027, UM will play Duke, Florida State, NC State, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech.

UM’s out of conference schedule next season includes a Sept. 4 game against Utah in Las Vegas and a Sept. 11 home game against Troy. UM must find a third non-conference opponent.

The Canes’ other future non-conference commitments, which are all subject to change, are home games against USF (2028) and Auburn (2029) and Temple (2029) and Buffalo (2030); a road game at Auburn in 2030; road games at Notre Dame in 2028 and 2031 and 2037, and home games against the Fighting Irish in 2032 and 2034.

Next season will be a nearly full implementation of the schedule model that the ACC began to phase in this season.

This year, 12 of the ACC’s 17 schools (including UM) are playing nine conference games.

Canes rookie report

Here’s how Canes rookie draft picks fared in their NFL debuts:

▪ By all accounts, Giants guard Francis Mauigoa (picked 10th overall) had a successful first game, blocking effectively in the run game and not allowing a single quarterback sack or pressure in 36 pass blocking snaps. But Pro Football Focus rated him only 58th of 64 guards in Week 1.

▪ Tampa Bay defensive end Rueben Bain Jr. (12th overall) had a quiet debut, with just one tackle in 41 defensive snaps in a loss to the Bengals.

▪ Chargers defensive lineman Akheem Mesidor (22nd pick) had two tackles in 35 snaps off the bench.

▪ Eagles offensive tackle Markel Bell (third round, 68th overall) played only on special teams (four snaps).

▪ Tampa Bay cornerback Keionte Scott (fourth round/116th overall) had four tackles in 47 snaps but allowed three completions in three targets for 35 yards.

▪ Arizona quarterback Carson Beck (third round/65th pick) did not play in Week 1 and Jets guard Anez Cooper (sixth round/188th) is on injured reserve.

▪ Two others were on the inactive list in week 1: Vikings safety Jakobe Thomas (third, 198) and Rams receiver CJ Daniels (sixth, 197).
