Caleb Douglas set to return: Dolphins’ Hafley addresses who’s in, who’s out, more

Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley said Friday that receiver Caleb Douglas, who has missed the past three games with an ankle injury, will play on Sunday at the Jets (1 p.m., CBS-4).

“It’s good to have him back,” Hafley said. “He’s made a bunch of plays in practice. I’m excited to see him play. Our whole team is excited. He will bring some extra juice.”

Douglas, running back Jaylen Wright (foot), tight end Will Kacmarek (hamstring), defensive end Rob Beal Jr. (hamstring) and long snapper Tucker Addington (shoulder) were all limited participants in practice on Wednesday and Thursday.

Hafley said Wright will play Sunday but Beal likely will not. Addington is expected to play, and Kacmarek said Thursday that he’s good to go for Sunday.

Linebacker Willie Gay (illness) and cornerback Reese Taylor (quadricep) were the only players on the 53-man roster who did not practice at all Thursday. Gay is feeling better, “and I anticipate him practicing and being out there” Sunday, Hafley said. Taylor is out on Sunday.

Safety Kyle Louis, who is on injured reserve with a knee injury, has been practicing for two days; Hafley said there’s no decision yet on whether he will be activated off injured reserve before the Jets game. Miami has 19 more days to make a decision about whether to activate him off IR.

Hafley addressed other issues:

▪ He said he meets with quarterback Malik Willis for 30 minutes to an hour every Friday or Saturday and they discuss football and non-football topics.

▪ Hafley assessed rookie tight ends Seydou Traore and Justin Joly:

On Traore, who has impressed the team on special teams: “Very athletic, really good pass catcher, has recevier like skills, foot speed, quickness. It’s [now the] development of him being a complete tight end. He hasn’t played a lot of football in his life. I’m excited about him. I love his demeanor and growth. He’s developed an edge an toughness you see on special teams.”

Joly, a rookie fifth-round pick who was claimed off waivers from Denver in late August, “is a really good athlete. You can line him up at tight end and a fullback type role. He can play receiver and has some size and thickness to him. A cool one for us to pick up and almost having another draft pick.”

▪ Hafley said the Dolphins are preparing as if Jets running back Breece Hall will play; the Jets are listing him as questionable. He didn’t practice Wednesday and was limited Thursday because of a quadriceps injury. “I would be shocked” if he didn’t play, Hafley said.

▪ On the team’s offensive line: “You’ve seen growth. You’re seeing the confidence grow. That’s a physical group. They have a nastiness to them that I love. It’s a tight group. Thursday nights, they go out to dinner together.”
