Giants’ Brian Burns Exits with Ankle Injury as Injury Toll Mounts in Rams Loss
New York Giants edge rusher Brian Burns sustained a low ankle injury in the fourth quarter of their 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night at SoFi Stadium.

Burns was injured on the first play of the Rams’ final offensive drive. He hobbled off the field with help from the Giants’ athletic-training staff and did not return.
Burns had two tackles and a quarterback hit in defeat.
Burns’ ankle injury was the cherry on top of an injury-riddled sundae Monday night. The Giants, of course, lost quarterback Jaxson Dart to a sprained MCL, nearly lost Malik Nabers to a shoulder injury and saw left tackle Andrew Thomas and rookie inside linebacker Arvell Reese all briefly get banged up.
Brian Burns Sustained a Low Ankle Injury
When Burns went down and was writhing in pain after Blake Corum’s 18-yard run, it was about the worst possible sendoff with six minutes to go in the game.
Still, Burns’ injury, which was confirmed by coach John Harbaugh, could have been worse. A high-ankle sprain would linger, especially for an edge like Burns and while playing home games on the inconsistent MetLife Stadium turf.
But a low-ankle sprain is better, even though it may still cost Burns time.
“The fact that it’s low makes me happy,” Harbaugh said.
John Harbaugh: The Giants’ Injuries Are Not ‘Life-Threatening’
For all of the angst surrounding the injuries to Dart, Thomas, Nabers, Reese and Burns, the Giants caught huge breaks in each player’s injury severity.
Dart’s sprained MCL is definitely not season-ending. Burns’ ankle injury may cost him a game or two. Nabers, Thomas and Reese all returned to action.

“None of these injuries are life-threatening,” Harbaugh said. “Those guys will be back. They may be back this week. They may be back next week. When they’re back, that’ll be great.”
Nabers sustained the shoulder injury while reaching for a contested catch against Rams cornerback Trent McDuffie. He confirmed the injury and that he would be getting an X-ray when they returned to New Jersey on Tuesday.
“My shoulder’s OK. I’m going to get an X-ray and see what’s going on,” Nabers said. “[It] popped out, and I just popped it back in.”
Harbaugh’s focus, meanwhile, is on trying to beat the Tennessee Titans with whatever players he has available.
“Our task is not to lament [injuries],” Harbaugh said. “Our job is to … go out and play the best football game that we can with our football team and endeavor to win the football game. That’s what we gotta do.”
