Fantasy Football Start or Sit Week 2: Jordan Love, Christian Watson, MarShawn Lloyd, and More

After blowing a fourth-quarter lead in their season opener, the Green Bay Packers may be more motivated on offense in Week 2 against a less talented New York Jets defense. There will be opportunities for the likes of quarterback Jordan Love and wide receiver Christian Watson to shine, but possible inclement weather and injuries along the Green Bay line and backfield could have a significant impact.

Before making those last-minute lineup changes, take a look at the starts and sits for the Packers against the Jets.

QB Jordan Love – Start

Taking away two turnovers, Jordan Love had a spectacular Week 1 considering the circumstances. With no run game to speak of and a spotty offensive line protecting him, the Packers QB threw for 387 yards and two touchdowns against the Minnesota Vikings.

Love will have the same obstacles in his way on Sunday, but heavy rain in the forecast may put a damper on his stat line. Regardless, Love will be leaned upon to lead the offense, rain or shine. Whether the results are good enough for your fantasy team is debatable.

Start Love if you must, but be cautious.

RB MarShawn Lloyd – Sit

This should go without saying, but after a rough outing in Week 1, MarShawn Lloyd should be on your bench Sunday. Against the Vikings as the Packers’ lead back, he managed only 37 yards off 13 carries (2.8 YPC).

The Jets allowed the fourth-fewest yards on the ground (68 yards) in Week 1, but that came against the lowly Tennessee Titans. There’s certainly an opportunity for Lloyd to break out, but the risk is likely higher than the reward.

Lloyd has yet to showcase No. 1 back abilities, and until that happens, he shouldn’t be anywhere near your starting lineup.

WR Christian Watson – Start

In Week 1, Christian Watson had a big day, catching six passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns, the second-highest output of his career.

Only the Kansas City Chiefs (115 yards) and Pittsburgh Steelers (118 yards) gave up fewer passing yards than the Jets (127 yards) in Week 1. But, as stated earlier, that came against the Titans. Furthermore, the Jets will be without several defensive players on Sunday, including safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.

If the weather cooperates, it could be another big day for Watson. Either way, he’s a decent start this week, and is nearing must-start territory weekly.

TE Tucker Kraft – Start

The Packers star tight end was a small contributor in Week 1, recording three catches for 65 yards. But Week 2 offers a fresh opportunity.

The Jets held tight ends largely in check last week, allowing five catches for 35 yards. But they weren’t facing a tight end the caliber of Kraft.

With a shaky offensive line in front of him, quarterback Jordan Love may look to Kraft more often on Sunday. That point becomes doubly true with heavy rain possible at MetLife Stadium.

Kraft could be in for a productive day, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him find the end zone.

Packers Defense/Special Teams – Sit

The Packers defense was rock solid for three quarters in Week 1, but the offense put them in near-impossible situations late in the game. The unit has a better matchup against the Jets this week, but with the elements likely playing a role, they could be a risky play.

Last week, the Jets played mistake-free football on offense, with zero turnovers. Meanwhile, they averaged 5.8 yards per play, totaling 367 yards of total offense and 23 points.

Again, the Jets’ success came against the Titans, but they aren’t without weapons. Veteran quarterback Geno Smith isn’t scary, but he is capable. Plus, he has several studs at his disposal, including running back Breece Hall, who rushed for 102 yards and a score in Week 1, and star wideout Garrett Wilson, who tallied 79 yards and six catches.

If this were a home game, the Packers would be a more attractive play. But with so much uncertainty on both sides of the ball, better options likely exist.
