Spencer Jones Announces Reason for Removal From Yankees Lineup
New York Yankees outfielder Spencer Jones has made his case to earn a spot on the postseason roster this year.

Jones made his debut in early May and got a brief run before being optioned back to Triple-A. He was recalled in July and has since made it clear he is the better left-handed outfield option over Jasson Dominguez.
Across 80 games, the 25-year-old has hit .248 with a .318 on-base percentage, .751 OPS, 10 home runs and 38 RBIs. He has also swiped nine bases and has been able to play all three outfield spots, mostly appearing in center field during Trent Grisham’s absence.
Ahead of Saturday’s matchup with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Jones was not included in the starting lineup.
Instead, manager Aaron Boone opted to go with utility man Jose Caballero in center field. Jones spoke with reporters ahead of first pitch and revealed the reasoning for his absence was injury-related, though not a long-term concern.

At this stage of the season the Yankees are not playing for much, pretty much locked into the fourth seed in the American League and set to host a wild card series.
Making sure their key players stay healthy heading into the postseason is the priority right now, and a maintenance day for Jones makes complete sense.
It is unclear if Jones will be available for a pinch-hit appearance Saturday. If not, his next chance to return will come Sunday in the series finale against Arizona.
