Miami Springs cruises to 4-0 start while Coconut Creek edges Gibbons

Quarterback Marcus Smith threw for nearly 250 yards and tossed a pair of touchdown passes to Tyrell Johnson and Amari Pierre to lead Springs while E.J. Pierre, Victwon Miller Jr., Antonio Wright and Jacory Capers each had a rushing touchdown.

Derrick Bloodsaw added an 82 yard kickoff return for a score just before halftime to put the Hawks up 40-7 at the break. Three plays in to the second half Capers scored from 22 yards out to get the running clock going.

Springs is now off to its best start (4-0) since 1998 and the Hawks will face their stiffest challenge yet when they take on North Miami Beach next Friday, Sept. 18 at 3:30 at Traz Powell Stadium in a key district matchup.

CREEK EDGES GIBBONS

Jonathan Hernandez’s 32-yard field goal as time expired lifted Coconut Creek to a 17-14 victory over Cardinal Gibbons on Thursday night in Fort Lauderdale. The Cougars (3-1) will next host Boyd Anderson on Sept. 18 while Cardinal Gibbons (2-2) hosts Chaminade-Madonna.
