Gas going up in South Florida? Check the prices in your area

We’re back to work and school after the long Labor Day weekend. Are gas prices still going up as we hit the road for a new week in South Florida?

On Tuesday, Sept 8, prices are up a few cents a gallon in Miami-Dade and Broward and up 7 cents a gallon across the state. Except for the Keys and Palm Beach County, gas has stayed below $4 a gallon in Florida, according to AAA.

The average price in Miami and Fort Lauderdale is a penny a gallon higher than a month ago and 90 cents higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy, a national fuel monitoring service that surveys nearly 1,700 stations in South Florida

North Florida is the cheapest to pump in Florida while the Keys and Palm Beach County are the most expensive areas to buy gas, according to AAA.

Gas prices in South Florida

Miami-Dade: The average price: $3.93 on Tuesday, Sept. 8, a 2-cent increase from a week ago, according to AAA.

Fort Lauderdale: $3.95, a 2-cent increase from a week ago.

West Palm Beach/Boca Raton: $4.05, the same as a week ago.

Monroe County: $4.18, a 3-cent increase from a week ago.

Average: The average price for a gallon of gas in Florida on Tuesday, Sept. 8, is $3.89, a 2-cent increase from a week ago.

U.S. price at the pump

Average: The average price for a gallon of gas across the country on Tuesday, Sept. 8, according to AAA, is $4.15, a 7-cent increase from a week ago.

What the experts are saying

“Average gasoline prices rose in nearly three out of five states over the last week, while diesel surged in every state — with some climbing nearly 50 cents per gallon in just seven days. The milestone many hoped to avoid has arrived: the national average price of gasoline on Labor Day set a new all-time record for the holiday, eclipsing the previous mark of $3.83 per gallon set in 2012. Diesel’s record fell as well, with the national average reaching $5.87 per gallon on September 3, surpassing the prior all-time high of $5.82 per gallon set in 2022 — and with $6 per gallon now a realistic possibility in the weeks ahead if Ukraine’s continued attacks on Russian refining infrastructure keep knocking capacity offline. These are sobering milestones, and until the global refining supply picture meaningfully improves, both diesel prices face continued upward pressure while gasoline may seasonally slow in the weeks ahead.”
