Montgomery Police Department recruits sign as MPD bolsters ranks

The Montgomery Police Department held a signing day Friday, welcoming eight new recruits to the force.

The event was held Sept. 4 at City Hall. It’s part of the Project 50 effort, which is meant to add 50 additional officers to MPD.

“We are going to make that goal,” said Capt. David Wizorek, head of recruiting for MPD. “We’re going to do everything we can to get 50 people in that academy, but we’re not going to stop our efforts.”

The department has worked to increase and maintain manpower. The city passed pay raises and incentives of up to $10,000 in bonuses for new hires during their first year, plus an additional $2,500 post-academy bonus. The department also offers retention incentives up to $10,000 per year, spread quarterly for up to three years, to keep experienced personnel.
