‘I’m going to kill you.’ Jealousy led Miami man to shoot his ex-brother-in-law: cops

A Miami man who suspected infidelity between his ex-wife and her brother-in-law picked up a gun and tried to kill the brother-in-law, instead leaving him with a gunshot wound to the shoulder Wednesday, police say.

Ramon Lauzurique-Gonzalez, 55, is facing a charge of attempted second-degree murder with a firearm, his arrest report read. As of Thursday evening, he was in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Around 6:30 p.m., Lauzurique-Gonzalez and his ex-wife began arguing over what he believed to be the reason they’d divorced, she told Miami police. Jealous, he accused her of being attracted to her brother-in-law, who along with his wife — the woman’s sister — shared a residence.

Before abruptly leaving, she said he announced in Spanish, “I’m going to solve a problem,” the arrest report read.

Within the hour, while she was lying on the couch, she heard a shot — Lauzurique-Gonzalez had returned with a gun. The brother-in-law told authorities that before Lauzurique-Gonzalez shot him in the shoulder, he said: “I’m going to kill you.”

Lauzurique-Gonzalez then pistol-whipped the brother-in-law after shooting him. The other man was eventually able to disarm Lauzurique-Gonzalez.

He ran out the back door as police were called. An officer canvassing the area found Lauzurique-Gonzalez and detained him just five minutes after a 911 call was made.

“[Lauzurique-Gonzalez] spontaneously stated to Officer Falto in Spanish, ‘I did that to him because he was having sex with my girl.’” the arrest report read.

The brother-in-law was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. From his hospital bed, he told detectives what happened.

Detectives said Lauzurique-Gonzalez told them he’d been arguing with the brother-in-law for about three days because the man intervenes in conversations and arguments with his ex-wife. He warned the man to stop, or there would be problems.

On Wednesday, he saw the man and his ex-wife on the couch talking and laughing, which made him upset. Lauzurique-Gonzalez said that’s what drove him to get a gun and shoot the man.

“[Lauzurique-Gonzalez] stated he would have continued shooting, but the gun jammed,” the report read.
