Are you paying more for gas in South Florida? Check the prices in your area

South Florida drivers are seeing slightly higher prices at the pump as they get back to work and school this week.

“Drivers have seen gas prices move up and down throughout the summer, but the overall trend has been relatively stable,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Florida’s state average has remained near $3.92 per gallon for the past month and a half, which means motorists are approaching Labor Day with fuel costs that are generally in line with what they’ve been paying all summer.”

The average price in Miami and Fort Lauderdale is 2 cents a gallon higher than a month ago and 89 cents higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy, a national fuel monitoring service that surveys nearly 1,700 stations in South Florida

North Florida is the cheapest to pump in Florida while the Keys and Palm Beach County are the most expensive areas to buy gas, according to AAA.

Miami-Dade: The average price: $3.91 on Monday, Aug. 31, a 2-cent increase from a week ago, according to AAA.

Fort Lauderdale: $3.93, a 1-cent increase from a week ago.

West Palm Beach/Boca Raton: $4.05, a 2-cent increase from a week ago.

Monroe County: $4.15, a 5-cent increase from a week ago.

Average: The average price for a gallon of gas in Florida on Monday, Aug. 31, is $3.87, a 3-cent increase from a week ago.

Daytona Beach: $3.91

Average: The average price for a gallon of gas across the country on Monday, Aug. 31, according to AAA, is $4.08, a 1-cent decrease from a week ago.

What the experts are saying

▪ Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy:

“Average gasoline prices fell in slightly more than half of states over the last week while diesel declined in roughly half, as oil prices moved lower and offered some modest relief at the pump. Over the weekend, the Trump administration struck a major deal with Venezuela, a signal that the White House remains concerned about elevated fuel prices — though in reality, any benefits from increased Venezuelan output will take years to fully materialize and are unlikely to move the needle in the near term. The factors with the most immediate impact on where prices go from here remain the ongoing developments between the U.S. and Iran and continued Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries, both of which continue to exert outsized influence on global fuel markets. Motorists should expect continued volatility in the weeks ahead.”

“Gas prices are one factor travelers consider when planning a trip, but they’re rarely the deciding factor. Many Floridians have been paying around the same price for gas throughout the summer, so there isn’t a lot of sticker shock heading into the holiday weekend. People who have planned a Labor Day getaway are generally still taking that trip.”
