The 35-foot SeaVee boat had four adults on board as it travelled northbound in the Intracoastal Waterway off Tavernier and turned into Cowpens Cut, a narrow Florida Bay channel, the FWC said in a statement.

All of the passengers fell out of the boat. Dianelis Martinez, 52, was killed, and two other passengers, who have not been named, were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries, according to the FWC.

The FWC did not say how Martinez was killed. The Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed to the Miami Herald that it is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened around 4 p.m.

The FWC did not release any information about who was operating the boat, the identities of the other passengers or if criminal charges are pending, saying the incident remains under investigation.

“The FWC extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends affected by this tragic incident,” the agency said in a statement.
