Unlike its older sibling, the brand-new location of Miami Slice is more than a slice counter. It’s got chairs and tables and booths and a little more space for customers.

That said, you should still probably expect a wait.

One of Miami’s most popular pizza spots, Miami Slice is opening its new Coconut Grove location on Aug. 12 next to the Mr. C Hotel.

There are no reservations or pre-orders, at least for the time being. It’s first come, first served. The original location was recently named one of the best slice shops in the country and its creators were named among the top pizzamakers in the world to watch. Considering all that, assume that half of Miami will want to be on hand for the first week.

The brand, created by founder Alejandro Diaz, managing partner Manuel Peinada and operating partners Jose “Chema” Cardenas, who’s also the culinary director, and Santiago Huen, opened its first Miami Slice and its famous slice bar at 1335 NE Miami Ct. in 2022. They went on to open a takeout location on Key Biscayne and yet another slice shop in the Fontainebleau Las Vegas.

Last week, the brand opened as a vendor at Inter Miami CF’s Nu Stadium, where it will sell margherita and pepperoni slices to hungry soccer fans.

The new Coconut Grove location will serve the same New York-style pizzas that have kept Miami rabid for more: Pepperoni Proper. Mushroom Truffle. Leeks on Bacon. There will also be new menu items using the wood-fired oven.

But if you want to stick to the old ways, know the slice bar will be open. You just have to get there in the right frame of mind.
