Gas prices are up again in South Florida. Check the cost in your area

As school opens this week and we get back to work from summer vacation, South Florida drivers are seeing higher prices at the pump.

The average price in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, while still averaging under $4 a gallon, is 4 cents a gallon higher than a month ago and 95 cents higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy, a national fuel monitoring service that surveys nearly 1,700 stations in South Florida

North Florida is the cheapest to pump in Florida while the Keys and Palm Beach County are the most expensive areas to buy gas, according to AAA.

Here’s what to know if you’re commuting or traveling in Florida:

Gas prices in South Florida

Miami-Dade: The average price: $3.88 on Monday, Aug. 10, a penny increase from a week ago, according to AAA.

Fort Lauderdale: $3.93, a 3-cent increase from a week ago.

West Palm Beach/Boca Raton: $4.03, a 3-cent increase from a week ago.

Monroe County: $4.10, a 6-cent increase from a week ago.

Average: The average price for a gallon of gas in Florida on Monday, Aug. 10, according to AAA, is $3.86, a 4-cent increase from a week ago.

Average: The average price for a gallon of gas across the country on Monday, Aug. 10, according to AAA, is $4, a 9-cent decrease from a week ago.

What the experts are saying

▪ Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy:

“Average gasoline prices declined in 47 states over the last week while diesel fell in 39, with the national average price of gasoline posting a double-digit drop per gallon. Diesel’s decline was roughly half that of gasoline, in part due to continued pressure on refined product markets from ongoing Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries. However, the wild ride continues. Iran is pushing back against a reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and oil prices edged modestly higher in Sunday night trading, signaling that the recent relief may not last. With the Strait remaining closed, upward pressure on fuel prices could return quickly, and if things don’t go well, the national average could climb to its highest level ever recorded this late in the calendar year. For now, enjoy the dip, but keep a close eye on how the Strait situation develops in the days ahead.”
