Editor’s Note: A child was hospitalized after a shooting in southwest Miami-Dade County on Tuesday afternoon, according to emergency radio communications.

The 6-year-old boy was first brought to Jackson South Medical Center for a gunshot wound to the collarbone and was then flown by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in stable condition, paramedics told dispatchers.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office sent an email to reporters around 5:15 p.m. that it responded to a shooting in the area of 10143 Circle Plaza West. The agency did not immediately release details about the shooting.

Two neighbors confirmed to the Miami Herald that a little boy was shot.
Alessandria Smith said she has lived in the area for about a year and was shocked to hear that a child was shot.
“I felt like that was my little cousin,” Smith said, noting children commonly play in the streets in the neighborhood.
