Man slammed victim to the ground in Walmart road rage attack, Hialeah police say

A man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly slamming another man to the ground, causing a brain bleed and spinal injuries, after a road rage incident at a Hialeah Walmart parking lot, police said.

The fight broke out on the afternoon of May 23 at 400 W. 49th St., Hialeah police said in an arrest affidavit. Christian Salgado and the victim, who was not identified, got into a road rage dispute in the parking lot, and Salgado drove off.

After a short time, Salgado returned and parked his car directly behind the man’s car, blocking his path, police said. He was inside his vehicle with his “visibly pregnant girlfriend of eight months and a young child.”

Salgado is accused of approaching the man, taunting him to start a fight and punching him in the face, police said. Salgado grabbed him by the waist, lifted him in the air and slammed him against the ground.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital and transferred to Jackson Memorial’s Ryder Trauma Center, police said. He suffered a skull fracture and an internal and external brain bleed. He also suffered fractures to multiple vertebrae in his neck and lower back area, fractured ribs and a fracture to his sternum.

He underwent emergency surgery, leaving a large scar on his scalp, and he is awaiting a medical evaluation to determine if he needs corrective spine surgery, police said. He has trouble standing for more than 20 minutes, cannot return to work and suffers with memory issues.

Police said Salgado, 46, of Miami Gardens, was the primary aggressor and “placed the victim in fear for his own safety and the safety of his family.”

Salgado is facing one count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm. He was being held Wednesday on a $15,000 bond at Miami-Dade Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

The Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office declined to comment on Salgado’s case.
