Pedestrian killed on sidewalk. South Federal Highway closed in Pompano Beach: BSO
A pedestrian was killed Tuesday afternoon in Pompano Beach, causing a stretch of South Federal Highway to be closed, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a crash on the 1000 block of South Federal Highway shortly before 1 p.m., a BSO spokesperson said. They located a driver, who is accused of striking a pedestrian on a sidewalk.
The pedestrian, who was not identified, died at the scene, BSO said. The driver, who was also not identified, was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries.

The southbound lanes of South Federal Highway between Southeast Ninth Street and 12th Street were closed as of around 3 p.m. while detectives investigate the circumstances of the crash, BSO said. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
