Everglades brush fire in Broward grows to 6,000 acres, officials say
An Everglades brush fire in Broward County continues to grow.
As of Saturday morning, the fire — which sits near mile marker 40, just west of U.S. 27 — has burned 6,000 acres and is 30% contained, according to the Florida Forest Service. The fire started burning on Thursday and might have been caused by lightning, said Chris Fisher, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Miami.

Current wind patterns are helping keep smoke out of residential areas, but any storm could change the wind patterns, Fisher said.
