The pop superstar, wearing white sunglasses, and matching tank top and gloves, was pictured in the VIP box watching Argentina survive Cape Verde 3-2 with her two mini-me’s. The 49-year-old hitmaker was flanked on one side by Sasha, 11; the other Milan, 13.
We can see clearly whom Sasha was rooting for. The young man, who bears a striking resemblance to his famous mom, was sporting a light blue and white Argentina jersey. As for Milan, we couldn’t tell which country he was supporting that night. Because the teen was very politically rocking a white-collared shirt by Nude Project, a trendy fashion label founded by two college students in Madrid in 2019.
It’s not surprising these kids are into soccer; their DNA’s wired that way. Dad is Shakira’s ex partner, retired Spanish footballer Gerard Pique, 39.
Shakira is also a cool mom in the music world with strong ties to the World Cup. Her name basically will forever be tied to the iconic global tournament after being involved in the entertainment side of it for 20 years.
The Colombiana’s first World Cup outing was in 2006 when she and reggae king Wyclef Jean stunned the crowd with “Hips Don’t Lie” in the halftime ceremony in Berlin.
Four years later, Shakira debuted “Waka-Waka” during the opening ceremony in Johannesburg, when fate soon intervened and she met Pique. The then FC Barcelona center back was a starter with his national team, which ended up winning the whole thing against the Netherlands in OT 1-0.

“That song took me to the World Cup and the World Cup had an important impact in my life,” Shakira recently told People, joking that she calls Sasha and Milan her “Waka kids.” “They were born — the best thing that has happened to me.”
In 2014, when Brazil had World Cup honors, Shakira and funk/R&B star Carlinhos Brown closed out the festivities with “La La La” at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. The Grammy winner happened to be dealing with another milestone: a baby bump with Sasha.
“My fans, all of my fans, they saw me perform, and they’re like, ‘Shakira’s pregnant,’” she told the celebrity outlet. “And I was like a month pregnant. I was like two months maximum, but they know me so well.”
Finally, this year, the now single mom dropped the official FIFA anthem, “Dai Dai.” Meaning “Go, Go!” in Italian, the infectious Afrobeats-meets-Latin track is a collab with Nigerian artist Burna Boy. Look for Shak to belt it out as co-headliner (with Madonna and BTS) at the first-ever World Cup Final halftime show at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on July 19.
She’s more than ready to take the grand stage yet again.
“Every World Cup is something really magical,” Shakira said in the interview. “And I think this one is going to be all about bringing people together in this very sensitive moment in time, socially and politically.”
