Gas prices are down in South Florida. Will they fall more? Check your area

Gas prices have gone down again this week in the Miami and Fort Lauderdale areas.

As of Monday, June 15, gas prices remained under $4 a gallon in South Florida. The average Miami-area price is 43 cents a gallon lower per gallon than a month ago but 99 cents higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy, a national fuel monitoring service that surveys nearly 1,700 stations in South Florida

“Crude prices dropped … after the United States and Iran announced an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “This is an encouraging sign for drivers, as lower oil prices typically lead to lower prices at the pump. However, this remains a fluid situation, and it’s unclear how quickly or how much gas prices may fall.”

North Florida is the cheapest to pump in Florida while the Keys, Naples and Palm Beach County are the most expensive areas to buy gas, according to AAA.

Average: The average price for a gallon of gas across the country on Monday, June 15, according to AAA, is $4.06, a 10-cent decrease from a week ago.

“Average gasoline prices fell in 47 states over the last week, with the national average dropping below $4 per gallon late Sunday for the first time since mid-April. The decline came as oil prices moved sharply lower in reaction to news of a potential deal between the United States and Iran, though it remains to be seen whether the agreement will hold. A handful of price-cycling states saw averages jump before joining the broader downward trend. The real test now shifts to the Strait of Hormuz, where any reopening and resumption of normal oil flows would be the clearest signal that this relief is durable. For now, the national average could continue falling, provided there isn’t a drastic reversal and the U.S. and Iran continue moving in a positive direction.”
