The closing is part of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy by the Arizona-based chain, which was founded in 2008 by integrative medicine doctor Andrew Weil and restaurateur Sam Fox, according to Yahoo! Finance.

As part of the company’s voluntary restructuring, the chain has closed 12 locations, including the one at 8888 SW 136th St. in Miami as well as restaurants in California, Chicago, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Virginia. Thirty-four of the company’s restaurants remain open across 14 states.

Along with the other closed restaurants, the Kendall True Food Kitchen shut down Oct. 4.

A huge space that seated 385 diners indoors and 124 on its outdoor patio, the Kendall was originally supposed to open in 2020 but was delayed by the pandemic. When it finally opened in 2022, it served up a menu built on Weil’s anti-inflammatory food pyramid, which puts vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans and seafood in the spotlight.

Popular dishes included grilled sustainable salmon, tuna poke bowls, grain bowls and salads.
