Kilo of suspected narcotics washes up at Florida Keys state park, MCSO says

A ranger at a Florida Keys state park found a package of what is believed to be illegal narcotics washed up on the shore Sunday morning, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said.

The ranger found the package, which weighed about a kilogram and a half, at Long Key State Park in the Middle Keys around 7 a.m., according to the sheriff’s office. It had a picture of a lion on the wrapper, a photo provided by the sheriff’s office showed.

Deputies turned the package over to the Border Patrol, which will test the contents.

Washed up loads of cocaine and marijuana are a fairly common sight in the Keys. They are typically lost packages from illegal smuggling runs either destined for the Keys or en route to another location.
