Crazy Cajun Specialty Meats cooks up best burger at Destin festival

Although Crazy Cajun Specialty Meats walked away with bragging rights for best overall burger at the sixth annual Burgers, Bourbon and Beer Festival, the real winners were the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast.

With nearly 1,000 in attendance, the festival brought in $50,000 for BGCEC, according to Tyler Jarvis, event organizer.

Not only did the Crazy Cajun Specialty Meats win best overall, but they placed first in the People’s Choice Awards.

This was the first year for the festival to be held at the Mattie Kelley Arts Foundation Cultural Arts Village behind Destin High, and the people liked it.

People commented about the spacious area. In the past, the festival was held on the harbor behind Brotula’s Seafood House and Steamer. MKAF Cultural Arts Village has more room for folks to move around and enjoy the afternoon.

Ten area restaurants brought their grills and best burgers to the festival.

• Best Overall: Crazy Cajun Specialty Meats.
• Most Creative: North Bay Social.
• Best Topping: Jackacuda’s Seafood & Sushi.
• People’s Choice, first place: Crazy Cajun.

• People’s Choice, second place: North Beach Social.
• People’s Choice, third place McGuires Irish Pub.

In addition to good burgers, bourbon and beer, Below Alabama entertained the crowd on stage as well as a local DJ that kept the music going all day.
