82-year-old sent to hospital after three-vehicle crash on HIghway 22

An 82-year-old Bloomington woman was sent to St. Cloud Hospital after a three-vehicle crash Saturday morning on Highway 22 in Stearns County.

A 79-year-old Richmond man was driving the woman north in a Chevrolet Equinox around 11 a.m. Sept. 19 near Cold Spring, according to a Minnesota State Patrol report. A Chevrolet Suburban and a Dodge Ram 1500 were driving in the same direction when all three vehicles collided.

A 17-year-old Eden Valley man was driving the Suburban, and a 59-year-old Buffalo man was driving the Ram with a 53-year-old Rockford woman passenger, MSP reported.

The Bloomington woman’s injuries were not life threatening, and no other injuries were reported, police said. They do not believe alcohol to be involved.

The Cold Spring Police Department, Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, Mayo Ambulance Service and Chain of Lakes Fire and Rescue Department assisted MSP.

The Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety within the Department of Public Safety tracks crashes and fatalities throughout the year. According to preliminary reports, there have been 67 fatalities in the state since the end of July.

Overall, the largest number of traffic-related deaths come from the 21 to 30 age range, followed by the 61 to 70 age range. Men make up about twice the number of fatalities as women do.

At this time last year, there were about 260 deaths. In 2026, there were 286 deaths reported as of Sept. 21.
