Longtime Martin County High School choral director Ronald Corbin dies

STUART – Ronald L. Corbin, the longtime choral director whose 34-year career at Martin County High School shaped generations of local students and left an enduring mark on the community, has died.

To his former students, Corbin was far more than a music teacher. For more than three decades, his classroom and choirs became a place where young people found their voices, formed lifelong friendships and learned lessons that extended far beyond the music they performed.

Under Corbin’s direction, generations of Martin County High School students performed together in concerts, competitions and community events. But perhaps the clearest measure of his influence came years later: former students continued to stay connected to him – and to one another – long after graduation.

Following news of his death, former students spanning decades began sharing photographs, recordings and memories of the teacher many still simply called “Mr. Corbin.”

For those who sang for him, the memories are remarkably vivid: rehearsals, performances, laughter, friendships and the unmistakable feeling of being part of something larger than themselves.

His influence also extended beyond music. Corbin created a sense of belonging for students during some of the most formative years of their lives, and many carried that connection with them into adulthood.

Ronald Corbin taught music for 34 years. He created something that lasted much longer.
