Rangers Make Brandon Nimmo Announcement After Removal From Lineup

Brandon Nimmo has been exactly what the Texas Rangers hoped for in his first year with the organization. He was acquired this past offseason in a trade with the New York Mets that sent Marcus Semien to Queens.

The 33-year-old has been a valuable veteran presence and has been solid at the plate throughout the season. Across 149 games, Nimmo has posted a .260 batting average, .325 on-base percentage, .732 OPS, 14 home runs and 61 RBIs.

He has also swiped seven bags and played solid defense in the outfield. Given that Texas acquired him for Semien, who has struggled considerably in New York, the deal has worked out perfectly for the Rangers.

Texas won their second straight game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday, officially placing them a game ahead of the Houston Astros in the standings and giving them sole possession of first place in the AL West heading into the final seven games of the season.

With Texas looking for the sweep of Toronto, Nimmo was originally included in the starting lineup as usual. However, moments before first pitch he was removed with Alejandro Osuna stepping into his usual spot in right field. Moments later the Rangers announced the reasoning behind his absence.

It is positive that it is not anything physical for Nimmo, but it is still unfortunate to not see him in the starting nine at this point in the season.

With the Rangers off on Monday he will effectively get two full days to recover from the illness and should be ready to return Tuesday in a matchup against his former team, the Mets, as Texas looks to finish the season strong and return to October baseball.
