Discipline Is Coming ‘Soon’ For 49ers Owner Jed York

There’s nothing the NFL hates more than a bad headline and San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York gave them plenty over the summer. While York is voluntarily keeping away from the team for the time being to avoid making any more problems for the team, discipline from the league office is coming soon.

According to ESPN, York already chose to miss the 49ers’ season-opening win over the Los Angeles Rams but will now miss the team’s home opener at Levi’s Stadium against the Miami Dolphins. Per the report, the NFL is expected to make a decision on potential discipline for him “soon.”

“49ers owner Jed York, who was in Australia but did not attend his team’s regular-season opener, also will miss Sunday’s home opener in San Francisco against the Miami Dolphins, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter,” ESPN shared on Sunday. “York, who was arrested last month on suspicion of engaging in prostitution, is staying away from the Niners so as not to create a distraction, a source told Schefter. The NFL is expected to make a decision on any potential discipline for York ‘soon,’ a source told Schefter.”

York’s Controversy in Ohio

York was arrested in Ohio back in August on misdemeanor charges after responding to an undercover ad on a prostitution website and “arranged to have sexual activity with the female in exchange for $140.” He pleaded no contest to the charges and the legal matter is now settled.

But the entire incident was a serious black eye for York, the 49ers, the owners and the NFL as a whole.

The league announced following his arrest that it was “aware of the matter which will be reviewed under the personal conduct policy.”

York has served as the principal owner of the 49ers since 2024 and has served as their CEO since 2008.

Were it not for the 49ers absolutely destroying the Rams in Week 1, it’s likely that his foray in Ohio would be a bigger source of mockery even as September comes to a close. So long as his team keeps winning, he should be able to avoid some of the nastier headlines.
