The Buffalo Bills hosted the Detroit Lions in the first “Thursday Night Football” game of the 2026 NFL regular season earlier this week. Buffalo was playing the first game in its new stadium. The Bills topped the Lions in a high-scoring game at home.

But during the game, Fitzpatrick – who played for the Bills during his lengthy NFL career – faced a lot of blowback online for his behavior.

Fox Sports 1 star Nick Wright was among those to call out Fitzpatrick for his frat boy-esque behavior on the air.

“Just because he has a long beard and we see his chest hair, he’s charismatic? I don’t get it,” Wright said.

This is kind of the Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jason Kelce move, where you have a former NFL player with a beard who likes to yell and drink and make a bit of a fool of himself, and everyone else is supposed to enjoy it.

NFL fans don’t seem to, though.

Fans weigh in on Fitzpatrick’s behavior

“He’s right we don’t need another white fratboy stinking up sports media,” one fan wrote.

“My kind of hating.. also, that whole jumping through tables stuff has gotten so much mileage as if it isn’t unoriginal and boring,” one fan added.

“Nick Wright has a problem with anything to do with Buffalo and/or joy. I’m not moved lol,” one fan added.

“Nick wright walks into some W’s from time to time,” one fan added.

Wright is a massive Kansas City Chiefs fan, so perhaps there is some bias when it comes to his criticism of anything Buffalo, but it’s clear that there are some NFL fans who agree with him on Fitzpatrick.
