Bengals vs. Texans: Final score predictions for Week 2

Week 2 presents another home test for the Houston Texans. The Cincinnati Bengals visit NRG Stadium in Houston for a 1 p.m. EDT kickoff on Sunday. The Texans are coming off a 36-31 loss to the Buffalo Bills, making this an important home game as they try to avoid an 0-2 start.

The Bengals opened the season with a 33-27 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Joe Burrow is officially questionable because of a back issue, but he practiced fully Friday and has said he expects to play. Similarly, for Houston, Nico Collins is out for Sunday’s game.

Regarding the matchup, the Texans are slightly favored over the Bengals. The following breakdown examines how this game could play out along with the offensive and defensive factors that will decide the outcome.

Texans Win 27-24

The Texans are currently around 2.5-point favorites, with a money line near -142, while Cincinnati sits around +120. That reflects a modest edge rather than a clear gap between the teams. The prediction is tight yet fits the game.

Cincinnati displayed enough offense to score 33 points last week, while Houston’s defense struggled badly against Buffalo. Although, not every media has Houston winning, as several projections favor Cincinnati.

Houston has the opportunity to respond immediately after allowing 36 points to Buffalo. A bounce-back performance from the defense could be the difference in another one-score game.

Texans Offensive Outlook

In the season opener, C.J. Stroud finished Week 1 with 274 passing yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, posting a 106.7 passer rating. He played well but was outperformed by Josh Allen in the shootout. Wide receiver Collins is out with a hamstring injury after catching seven passes for 75 yards and a touchdown against Buffalo.

Houston will need Kayshon Boutte, Xavier Hutchinson and Jaylin Noel to absorb those targets. It cannot make Stroud carry the offense without its top receiver. A productive ground attack can slow Cincinnati’s pass rush and create easier throws for Stroud.

Starting guard Ed Ingram is also out, while Trent Brown is dealing with a hand issue but is not listed as out. With injuries affecting the offense, Stroud will need to get the ball out quickly and avoid giving Cincinnati extra chances.

Texans Defensive Outlook

Week 1 display was not the standard of the Texans’ defense. Houston surrendered 36 points and more than 400 yards to the Bills. Josh Allen threw for four touchdowns, exposing a defense that struggled to contain both the quarterback and big plays.

Jadeveon Clowney is out with a knee injury, removing another experienced edge presence. The Texans will need Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter to create pressure without leaving the secondary exposed. They must prevent Burrow from turning short completions into long drives.

It is expected that DeMeco Ryans addresses the team’s issues after Week 1. Houston’s defense has plenty to clean up. Better tackling, tighter coverage and more pressure on Burrow can keep Cincinnati’s offense from controlling the game and give Stroud enough room to win a close finish.
