Matt LaFleur On Hot Seat Heading Into Week 2 Game vs. Jets

Could the Matt LaFleur era come to an end mid-season for the Green Bay Packers?

LaFleur has been the head coach of the Packers since 2019, leading the franchise to the playoffs in all but one season (2022). Although he owns a 76-41-1 career record, he might be on the hot seat in Wisconsin.

The Packers came into the 2026 season on a five-game losing streak, which included them blowing a 21-3 lead to the Chicago Bears in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. Green Bay fans were hoping LaFleur would make a statement in Week 1, but instead the outside noise surrounding him got louder.

Despite jumping out to a 22-10 lead, the Packers gave up 29 unanswered points to the Minnesota Vikings in a Week 1 loss.

Now, LaFleur is under serious pressure heading into Week 2 against the New York Jets.

During this Friday’s episode of “The Herd,” FS1’s Colin Cowherd declared that LaFleur’s seat is heating up.

“You’re losing to the wrong teams, Vikings and Bears! That stings, that leaves a mark in Green Bay,” said Cowherd. “This is a proud franchise… they’re not sitting around forever.”

The Packers enter this Sunday’s game as 3.5-point favorites.

Packers fans are losing patience.

While a coaching change isn’t imminent, Packers fans are willing to entertain a major move if the team loses to the Jets on Sunday.

“Sunday against the Jets is a must-win game for Matt Lafleur,” a Packers fan wrote on X. “Players may publicly express confidence, but he’ll eventually lose the locker room.”

“If the Packers lose to the Jets and start 0-2, does Matt LaFleur get fired?” a second fan asked.

“I know we are two weeks in, but this week is a must win vs the Jets,” another fan said. “You can’t fall to 0-2. Matt Lafleur has to find a way this week.”

It’ll be interesting to see how LaFleur handles this must-win game against New York.
