New details are emerging about Donald Trump Jr.’s spring wedding to Bettina Anderson, some of them eyebrow-raising (and we don’t mean in the Botox kind of way).

According to Palm Beach County records, the couple were legally married in West Palm Beach on May 21 at the home Anderson’s twin, Kristina McPherson. Her sister’s husband, real estate attorney Bradley McPherson, officiated.

Two days later, the newlyweds traveled to a Norman’s Cay, a private island in the Bahamas only accessed by boat or charter plane, about 200 miles from Miami. They were joined by about 50 guests for the Memorial Day weekend festivities.

Footing the bill for at least some parts of this extravaganza that included an over-the-top fireworks show: a Russian businessman with ties to President Vladimir Putin, according to investigative website ProPublica.

“The oligarch, Umar Kremlev, spent hundreds of thousands on expenses like renting out a private island,” the nonprofit outlet reported on Monday. “He appears to have met Trump Jr. only recently, but he attended the intimate wedding with a large group of other Russian guests.”

Trump Jr.’s spokesperson confirmed the ProPublica story was correct, adding that the two men, who met through a mutual friend in the hunting world, bonded over a love of the outdoors.

In a joint statement on Anderson’s Instagram page after the article was published, the couple again double-downed that Kremlev, “a dear friend,” did indeed give them “an extraordinarily generous wedding gift.”

They explain that their original nuptials date had been delayed, reportedly due to world events, including the conflict in Iran, and the Bahamas bash had been planned in advance as a “fun” getaway.

The political couple go on to say they remain “incredibly grateful” to Kremlev, who is the president of the Switzerland-based International Boxing Association, which governs amateur and professional matches.

The statement, chockful of pictures from the beachy shindig, concludes by saying that there is nothing amiss going on.

“It’s unfortunate that something so personal and happy can be recast as something political or sinister simply because of who someone is or where they come from. Friendship doesn’t require a political motive. Generosity doesn’t automatically come with an agenda,” said the post. “So, for anyone determined not to let the facts get in the way of a good story: NO CONSPIRACY, NO MYSTERY. Just a private family wedding, a wonderful weekend with friends and one hell of a party.”

So what does the father of the groom think about all of this?

NBC News reports that President Donald Trump, who did not attend either celebration and said he didn’t know Kremlev, called him paying for the after-party “not a big deal.”
