Both teams are only one point and one position apart in the Premier League table. Chelsea sit 6th with 7 points, while Brentford sit 7th with 6 points. Chelsea has two wins, one draw, and one defeat, while Brentford is unbeaten with one win and three draws.

Last weekend, Chelsea drew 2-2 with Hull City at Stamford Bridge while Brentford drew 2-2 with Bournemouth.

A few days ago, Brentford defeated Reading 2-1 away from home to reach Round 4 of the EFL Carabao Cup. Brentford’s last home game was in the Premier League, when they drew 1-1 with Sunderland two weeks ago.

For this matchup, Brentford manager Keith Andrews says the squad used last weekend is similar, meaning Mathias Jensen, Nathan Collins, and Sepp van den Berg are unavailable; Collins and Van den Berg are aiming to be fit after the international break.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has not ruled out any player from playing today against Brentford. Moises Caicedo could return today after Alonso confirmed that he is getting closer to full fitness. Reece James missed a training session but is expected to be in the squad.

Joao Pedro has been withdrawn from the Brazil squad for the upcoming international break, but Alonso states there’s a ‘possibility’ that the striker could play against Brentford and then miss the Brazil friendly matches in the next few weeks. Alonso did not confirm what type of injury Pedro has.
