Traffic alert: Man standing outside his car is killed on Florida’s Turnpike
A man standing alongside his car on the shoulder of Florida’s Turnpike in South Miami-Dade was struck and killed by a passing car early Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The man was standing on the right-side emergency shoulder near Goulds when a Honda Civic traveling south hit him, said Lt. Alejandro Camacho, an FHP spokesman.

Troopers closed traffic from exits 11 to 12, Caribbean Boulevard to Southwest 216th Street. The crash happened around 4:50 a.m., and as of 7:30 a.m., the stretch was still closed. This caused major backups for commuters driving along Southwest 112th Avenue.
