Snow Strippers’ Florida tour comes to Tallahassee at The Moon

Electronic music duo Snow Strippers brought their legendary live show to Tallahassee on the evening of Thursday, Sep 10. The show at The Moon was their second stop of their brief 2026 Florida Tour, and their show at the local venue was one to remember.

Snow Strippers, made up of Tatiana “Tati” Schwaninger and Graham Perez, was formed in 2021. The duo met on Tinder in 2018 and relocated from Clearwater, Fla. to Detroit, Mich. and later New York City. Their debut album “The Snow Strippers” was released independently in 2022. The duo eventually signed to New York underground rap label Surf Gang with distribution rights granted to producer Diplo’s Mad Decent label.

Their sound, a unique rebirth of those popularized by the indie sleaze scene emerging in the early 2010’s, has been described as a mix of EDM with underground subgenres electroclash and witch house. They brought their most iconic songs, some surprises, and three special openers with them to The Moon.

Three unique openers

The show began with a DJ set from Florida producer and DJ hopper1000. Fresh off of the summer release of his album “Miami Mystic,” hopper1000 injects his Florida-raised identity into jumping mashups of drum and bass, Miami bass, and jungle. His sample choices know no limits, ranging from the likes of Florida classic “Stick it and Roll it” (DJ Chipman) to modern southern anthems like Sexyy Red’s “Skeeyee.”

His mix walked guests through the wide world of his sound whether they were familiar with it or not. A groovy bass reimagining of the slick, infectious guitar line of Spandau Ballet’s “True” and the Aphex Twin-sampling “SHIVA” were surely standouts of his set.

“We all got a purpose, but we from Florida man so we gonna win regardless,” hopper1000 said to the audience before exiting the stage.

Fresh Jame and Funball make up the Los Angeles electronic duo Nation. The two followed hopper1000 with a shorter set characterized by an over-the-top Eurodance energy. Vocalist Fresh Jame sported an interesting skullet-ponytail hairstyle, while both he and Funball rocked eccentric shield sunglasses. They certainly kept the energy that hopper1000 established before them, and were even giving out free CDs at the merch table.

“Nation was an awesome opener. Their energy was super good and [Fresh Jame] kept the crowd active and engaged,” FSU environmental science and policy major Lee Klodner said to the FSView.

The final opener was producer and Surf Gang founder Evilgiane. Credited on songs by the likes of Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky, the New York artist founded the Surf Gang label and collective in 2018. Snow Strippers were early signees to Surf Gang Records, and Evilgiane’s placement on the duo’s tour bill highlights the close-knit nature of Surf Gang as an underground collective.

Evilgiane’s enigmatic DJ set was a mix of cult rap songs and favorites from the wider Surf Gang catalogue alike. Earl Sweatshirt and Xaviersobased tracks produced by Evilgiane populated the mix, along with deep cuts from hitmakers like Chief Keef. Tallahassee is a rare stop for pioneers in the burgeoning underground rap scene, so hearing these artists’ scuzzy, experimental tracks at the Moon was surreal.

Snow Strippers’ chaotic headlining set

The headlining act took the stage shortly after. As much as all three openers turned the crowd up, Snow Strippers’ set was a riot. They set the tone for the rest of their performance coming out to the aggressive hardstyle of “Just Your Doll.”

Snow Stripper’s songs are loud and overwhelming, and their performance followed suit. Tati bounced around the stage crooning into the mic while Graham twisted the filter knob on the DJ deck and spammed playful sound bites. Most vocal interjections from the music were shoutouts to the sunshine state and “Tallanasty.”

In an underground scene currently dominated by guy-girl electronic duos, Snow Strippers stand out. Their act is defined by chaos, evidenced by Tati and Graham’s disordered stage presence at the Moon.

Graham reminds me of the kind of white-trash Floridian characters Harmony Korine makes movies about, flailing around the stage in a black ski mask and backwards Yankee hat. The duo revel in the anarchy of their music.

Following a brief break halfway through their hour-long set, Graham returned without Tati to play a few unique remixes. Absurd was their rendition of DJ Casper’s “Cha Cha Slide,” while a remix of Kodak Black’s “Walk” was a treat for a crowd of Floridians. Tati returned shortly after and finished the set with fan favorites “Under Your Spell” and “It’s A Dream” with Lil Uzi Vert.

“The openers had to perform for a really long time because Snow Strippers set up so late,” FSU editing, writing, & media major Liam Katz said to the FSView. “Still, it was one of the best concerts I’ve been to in Tallahassee, and more artists should come to the city more often.”

Tallahassee has a lively local music scene that has been efficiently rebuilding itself in the years since COVID-19. More rare is for established acts to stop in Tallahassee while on tour. Predictable house DJ’s play at Potbelly’s every week, but rarely will you catch a harder, more alternative electronic show in the city.

It was refreshing to see an act like Snow Strippers play in Tallahassee. A crowd populated by alt kids, furries, and looksmaxxers all the same was ample proof that a city like Tallahassee is made by its cool and spry youth. With three high-energy openers, Snow Strippers have a great four-act bill for their Florida Tour.

“Coming all the way from Tampa and driving home in the same night, I’d do it again without a second thought,” audience member Riley Lawrence said to the FSView. “The crowd and the energy in the room was awesome, it really held the vibe together for me. I feel these experiences – good, bad, or somewhere in between – are all worth it in the long run. I’m not going to be 20 years old at a Snow Strippers show with my friends in Tallahassee ever again.”
