Gas prices soar by double digits in Florida to more than $4. Check your area

Gas prices in Florida have crossed the $4-a-gallon barrier.

“Tensions in the Middle East intensified last week, causing oil prices to surge and increasing the cost of producing gasoline,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Florida drivers are now seeing those higher costs reflected at the pump. If oil prices remain elevated, motorists could face additional upward pressure on gas prices this week.”

On Monday, Sept 14, prices are up by double digits in Miami-Dade and Broward, according to AAA.

The average price in Miami and Fort Lauderdale is 21 cents a gallon higher than a month ago and $1.24 higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy, a national fuel monitoring service that surveys nearly 1,700 stations in South Florida

North Florida is the cheapest to pump in Florida — still under $4 a gallon — while the Keys and Palm Beach County are the most expensive areas to buy gas, according to AAA.

Miami-Dade: The average price: $4.13 on Monday, Sept. 14, a 20-cent increase from a week ago, according to AAA.

Fort Lauderdale: $4.17, a 22-cent increase from a week ago.

West Palm Beach/Boca Raton: $4.28, a 23-cent increase from a week ago.

Monroe County: $4.35, a 17-cent increase from a week ago.

Average: The average price for a gallon of gas in Florida on Monday, Sept. 14, is $4.13. a 24-cent increase from a week ago.

U.S. price at the pump

Average: The average price for a gallon of gas across the country on Monday, Sept. 14, according to AAA, is $4.31, a 16-cent increase from a week ago.

“Average gasoline and diesel prices rose in every state over the last week as geopolitical tensions escalated on multiple fronts, with friction between the U.S. and Iran, new hostilities in the Red Sea, and the shutdown of Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline all combining to jolt prices sharply higher. New weekend attacks also knocked two additional Russian refineries offline, further straining global refined product supplies and likely offsetting any seasonal relief. Diesel prices could climb even faster in the wake of the new refinery attacks. While most of the country transitions to cheaper winter-blend gasoline this week, the scale of ongoing geopolitical escalations makes meaningful price relief unlikely in the near term. Motorists should brace for continued volatility ahead.”
