Man torched his friend’s trailer — while they were both inside, deputies say

A man is behind bars after he set his friend’s trailer on fire — while they were both inside — in South Miami-Dade, according to deputies.

Brody James Severe, 46, appeared in bond court Tuesday morning and was ordered to be held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond. Severe is facing attempted felony murder and arson charges.

On Monday evening, deputies were called to a travel trailer parked outside a home in the 18700 block of Southwest 356th Street., just outside Florida City. When they arrived, the victim told them he saw Severe using a blue flame torch lighter to set a blaze on a blue-and-white towel, a mattress and a curtain.

The victim said he rushed outside the trailer and called law enforcement. He also told deputies that Severe was talking “about God and his place of work and different things” while setting the home ablaze, according to Severe’s arrest report.

Severe and the victim live together and have been friends for more than two decades, according to the report. The victim said he allowed Severe to move in with him in June after Severe “[fell] on hard times” in California.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, the report says, determined that the fire was intentionally set. While fire investigators took photographs of the scene and collected evidence, the extent of the fire or damage is unclear.

Severe was arrested and taken to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office South District Station, according to the report. There, Severe became “uncooperative,” sitting on the pavement and refusing to walk into the building.
