Family ‘begging for help’ after body found in private plane crash near Miami

One of the bodies of the four passengers whose plane crashed en route from the Bahamas to Miami was found Tuesday morning, the family confirmed.

Pilot Mario Lamar, 80, his wife Lili Lamar, 79, and two of their grandchildren, 28-year-old Sofia Sosa and 22-year-old Christian Sosa, disappeared Monday morning after their private plane vanished near North Andros Island. The family did not identify which body was found.

One of the Lamar’s relatives was the one who found the body. Several family members flew to the Bahamas Monday shortly after hearing the news and began searching via boat themselves, as bad weather delayed the official search from the U.S. Coast Guard and the Royal Bahamian Defence Force.

“A civilian — one of our own family members — was the person who located our loved one and had to bring their deceased relative onto their own boat,” the family said in a statement. “At this time, neither Bahamian authorities nor the U.S. Coast Guard are out there searching the waters.”

The Defence Force confirmed via statement that the search, ”was postponed until conditions became favourable.”

The family continues to urge any boaters or pilots who can help with the search for the other three family members to join the effort. They shared the approximate coordinates and a VHF radio frequency to help coordinate a civilian search.

As of Tuesday morning, family spokesperson Silvia Larrieu said that four of the family’s relatives were all out searching the waters for their loved ones.
