Fire broke out after collision between Amtrak train and a car in Broward: FLFR

Firefighters battled a blaze sparked by an Amtrak train and a car colliding Saturday night in Broward, authorities say.

Around 7:30 p.m., Oakland Park and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue were sent out to the blaze near Northwest Ninth Avenue and West Prospect Road after several 911 calls reported the collision, a Fort Lauderdale fire spokesperson said.

The fire began after the car and train collided. The blaze was not on the train and contained to the vehicle, which was pushed alongside the train, authorities said. The fire was put out.

Firefighters boarded the Amtrak to assess the passengers and train crew. There were no injuries among them, but two people were checked on.

There were no injuries among the occupants of the car.

A video shared with the Miami Herald shows the fire near a stopped Amtrak train with police and firefighters nearby working the scene.
