Weather alert: Extreme heat is back in Miami. Will it hit 100 again?

The heat is on again.

The National Weather Service has placed South Florida under a heat advisory, with feels-like temperatures expected to soar into the triple digits. The advisory, the third straight this week. is in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

But don’t expect the regular air temperature to hit 100 like it did on Tuesday afternoon in Miami. That broke a heat record for the day, and was the first time since 1942 that Miami reached 100 degrees.

Forecasters expect a change in the weather that will keep the high under the century mark.

“We’ll actually see some rain in the afternoon,” said meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez with Miami Herald news partner CBS News Miami.

The rain chance rises to 30% — and that will keep highs in the mid-90s. Wednesday’s high will be 95, dipping to around 80 at night, according to the National Weather Service.

But it will feel hotter, 105 to 112 degrees when humidity is mixed into the soup, and that’s why the weather service issued the heat advisory, which could bring heat-related health risks.

“We’re in for another sweltering day,” said Gonzalez, adding that the region could break more heat records.

So, when will all this extreme heat end?

The pattern will change Thursday and continue through the weekend.

The rain chance increases to 40%. And that will give us some relief — highs in South Florida will stay in the low-90s.
