Voters choose 2 new Broward School Board members; Bulman, Zeman also win their races

Voters chose two new candidates on Tuesday to join the Broward School Board, reelected two sitting members and left the status of one seat unresolved.

School Board members Maura Bulman and Allen Zeman won their races on Tuesday night.

Two north-county seats were guaranteed new representation after School Board members Nora Rupert and Lori Alhadeff chose not to seek reelection.

District volunteer Nicole Morst defeated college professor Sharry Kimmel in a heated District 4 race to replace Alhadeff, who had supported Kimmel. Morst had the support of board members Debbi Hixon, Nora Rupert, Jeff Holness and Sarah Leonardi.

“I am excited. I am humbled. I am grateful, and I feel overwhelmed with the support from my community,” Morst told the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “They came out strong for me, and I’m most humbled for it.”

In the District 7 race in northeast Broward, Rupert’s endorsed candidate, speech pathologist Shelly Soffer, lost to nurse and district volunteer Cynthia Dominique.
