A person was hospitalized with serious injuries after being attacked and bitten by an animal in Homestead Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The incident happened shortly before 1 p.m. at the 500 block of Northwest Ninth Street, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, which confirmed the adult was taken to Jackson South Medical Center’s trauma unit.

Homestead Police Department spokeswoman Officer Crystal Schnebly said the “animal involved in the incident is unknown at this time.”
