Humidity keeps Miami sweltering. It could feel 110, heat advisory warns

South Florida hasn’t been able to catch a break from sauna-like temperatures.

The fourth heat advisory of the month is coming in hot on Tuesday, leaving little time for relief after Monday’s heat advisory. The advisory is issued just before noon and remains in effect until 7 p.m.

Across the region, the heat index is forecast to reach 105 to 110 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The heat index measures how hot it feels when temperature and humidity are combined. Humidity Tuesday morning was at 80%.

That combination of intense heat and high humidity can lead to heat-related illnesses in people of all ages and health backgrounds. The NWS advises staying hydrated and out of the sun whenever possible.

There is also a small chance a heat record could be broken, said Anthony Reynes, a senior forecaster with the NWS local office. The high in Miami is forecast to reach 93 degrees today, while the record for this date is 96 degrees.

The most recent record was set July 31, when temperatures reached 96 degrees, making it the hottest July 31 on record for Miami.

If your day involves spending more time outside than sprinting from the air-conditioned safety of car, home and office, experts recommend you wear loose, light-colored clothing and take breaks in shade whenever possible.
