Construction crane collapses onto high-rise pool deck. No one injured

Miami firefighters rushed to a Brickell condominium building on Friday afternoon after a construction crane next door failed, and its arm snapped onto a pool deck below, authorities say.

Around 3:55 p.m., a crane was being assembled at a construction site next to One Plaza West Brickell, a luxury condominium at 1818 SW First Avenue, Miami Fire Rescue said.

The crane experienced “some kind of failure,” said department spokesperson Lt. Pete Sanchez. It’s arm torqued and fell onto the condominium’s pool deck.

The crane was not operating when the collapse occurred. Firefighters checked the pool deck and found no one injured.

The construction crew told authorities all the workers were accounted for and uninjured.

The pool deck was cordoned off to protect residents. The city of Miami’s Building Department and the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating.

The plot of land that the construction site sits on is registered to Westbri School Development LLC. The business could not be reached for comments.
