How does your South Florida hospital rank among the nation’s best? See list

Several South Florida hospitals ranked among the nation’s best for cancer care, eye care, rehabilitation, neurology and other specialties in the latest U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals 2026-2027, with some Miami-area medical centers also securing spots on the state’s Top 40 list.

The publication used a variety of measures, including federal data tied to patient outcomes. This year, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals in the country, 100 more than last year, including 274 in Florida, across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions.

Here’s what to know:

• Baptist Health, the region’s largest not-for-profit healthcare system, boasted of 63 recognitions across 33 specialties, procedures and conditions. Among them: Baptist Health Orthopedic Care ranked No. 1 in South Florida and No. 23 in the nation. Brain and spine care, cancer care and heart and vascular care were recognized among the top 10% of evaluated providers nationwide.
• UHealth-University of Miami Health System earned its strongest performance yet in a survey that dates back 35 years, highlighted by Bascom Palmer Eye Institute’s No. 1 national ranking in ophthalmology for the 25th year, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center becoming Florida’s highest-ranked cancer program, and five nationally ranked adult specialties. Cardiology and heart surgery ranked third in Florida. Orthopedics also boasted No. 3 in Florida. Neurology and neurosurgery reached the nation’s Top 15 for the first time.
• Christine E. Lynn Rehabilitation Center for The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis at UHealth/Jackson Memorial was judged one of the top 2% of rehabilitation hospitals in the nation four the fourth consecutive year. Jackson Health System’s Lynn Rehabilitation Center, which opened in 2020, also hit No. 1 in Florida for its comprehensive rehabilitation care. And nationally, Lynn moved up 13 spots from last year to rank 15th out of the top 50 best rehabilitation hospitals. “Every day, Lynn Rehabilitation Center’s team cares for patients facing some of life’s greatest challenges. We thank them for their unwavering commitment to helping those patients regain their independence, and congratulate them for building a program our community — and the world — can depend on,” David Zambrana, president and CEO of Jackson Health System, said in a statement.

Top ranked South Florida hospitals

U.S. News ranked eight hospitals in the South Florida area. Here’s how these medical institutions ranked overall locally and statewide:

1. Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital ranked No. 1 in the Miami metro area and No. 4 statewide.

2. University of Miami Hospital and Clinics/UHealth Tower ranked No. 2 in the Miami metro area and No. 5 statewide. “Our physicians, nurses and staff deserve every bit of this recognition, and we will celebrate it today knowing that our work is not done. What is being recognized is a standard of excellence we set long before anyone outside was measuring it, which is the quality of the care each patient receives, the research that drives innovations forward, and the education that powers the next generation of medicine. That is what we hold ourselves to, and it is what we will continue to build on,” UHealth CEO Dr. Dipen J. Parekh said in a statement.

3. Baptist Hospital: The Kendall-based hospital ranked No. 3 in the Miami metro area and No. 7 statewide. “This recognition is a tremendous honor and a reflection of the extraordinary people across Baptist Health who are committed to delivering exceptional, compassionate care every day,” Bo Boulenger, president and CEO of Baptist Health, said in a statement. “Being South Florida’s most awarded healthcare system for 16 consecutive years underscores the dedication of our physicians, nurses and team members, and our shared commitment to advancing quality, innovation, research and excellence for the communities we serve.”

4. Mount Sinai Medical Center: The Miami Beach hospital ranked No. 4 in the Miami metro area and No. 8 statewide.

5. Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines ranked No. 5 in the Miami metro area and No. 16 statewide.

6. Baptist Health South Miami Hospital: Ranked No. 6 in the Miami metro area and No. 21 statewide.

7. HCA Florida Kendall Hospital: Ranked No. 7 in the Miami metro area and No. 27 statewide.

8. HCA Florida Mercy Hospital: Ranked No. 8 in the Miami metro area and No. 31 statewide.

Top 10 regional hospitals in Florida

Here are the 10 best regional hospitals in the state in the 2026-2027 report. To land on this list these full-service general facilities had to meet rigorous quality standards that include earning a “High Performing” rating in at least eight procedures and medical conditions, including maternity care.

1. Mayo Clinic-Florida, Jacksonville

4. Cleveland Clinic Weston (Ranked No. 1 in Miami-Fort Lauderdale area)

5. University of Miami Hospital and Clinics-UHealth Tower (Ranked No. 2 in Miami-Fort Lauderdale)

6. Tampa General Hospital

7. Baptist Health Baptist Hospital (Ranked No. 3 in Miami-Fort Lauderdale)

8. Mount Sinai Medical Center (Ranked No. 4 in Miami-Fort Lauderdale)

9. Orlando Health-Orlando Regional Medical Center

10. Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville

Other local hospitals: Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines tied with NCH Baker Hospital in Naples for No. 16. Baptist Health South Miami Hospital tied for No. 21 with five other Florida hospitals. HCA Florida Kendall Hospital tied for No. 27 with AdventHealth Palm Coast, and HCA Florida Mercy Hospital tied for No. 31 with Health First Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne.
