UM football player partners with Overtown restaurant on new menu item

Miami Hurricanes defensive lineman Justin Scott has a burger with his name on it.

For a limited time, restaurant goers at Red Rooster Overtown will be able to taste a little bit of what Scott calls home with a new burger item on the menu as a part of a partnership between him and the popular eatery.

The dish, called J Scott Burger, is a reimagined version of a homemade meal and is described as double smashburger with cheese, caramelized house-made bacon, Southern Korean-inspired barbecue sauce and house made spicy mayo. Furikake-seasoned fries and a seasonal mango lemonade will be served alongside the burger.

The meal is inspired by one of Scott’s favorite family recipes his mom cooked for him while he was growing up in Chicago.

“Some of my best memories growing up were around the dinner table with my family,” Scott said in a statement. “When the opportunity came to create a dish with Red Rooster, I wanted it to be something personal, something that reminded me of home and honored the meals my mom made for me.”

A portion of the meal’s proceeds will also benefit Dunn’s Overtown Farm, which was founded by historian and educator Marvin Dunn and serves a way to promote food security to Overtown residents. Red Rooster has sourced locally grown produce from the farm and will include the farm’s ingredients in Scott’s signature dish.

“The fact that it also helps support Dunn’s Overtown Farm and the incredible work they’re doing in the community makes it even more meaningful,” Scott said. “I’m grateful for the chance to give back to a city that has welcomed me with open arms.”

The burger will be at Red Rooster, which has added new TVs at its bar for an enhanced game-day experience, through the football season.
