Gas takes a big drop in South Florida. Check prices in your area

As we get back to work or hit the road for a late summer vacation, drivers are getting a break: Gas prices are down by double digits in Florida this week.

Prices also are down in the Miami and Fort Lauderdale area compared to the same time last week. But the average Miami-area price is 3 cents a gallon higher than a month ago and 94 cents higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy, a national fuel monitoring service that surveys nearly 1,700 stations in South Florida

“Motorists should keep a close eye on developments both in the Middle East and in Ukraine, as either front could quickly shift the outlook,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

North Florida is the cheapest to pump in Florida while the Keys and Palm Beach County are the most expensive areas to buy gas, according to AAA.

Gas prices in South Florida

Miami-Dade: The average price: $3.87 on Monday, Aug. 3, a 9-cent decrease from a week ago, according to AAA.

Fort Lauderdale: $3.90, an 11-cent decrease from a week ago.

West Palm Beach/Boca Raton: $4, a 12-cent decrease from a week ago.

Monroe County: $4.04, a 15-cent decrease from a week ago.

Average: The average price for a gallon of gas in Florida on Monday, Aug. 3, according to AAA, is $3.82, 1 14-cent decrease from a week ago.

Average: The average price for a gallon of gas across the country on Monday, Aug. 3, according to AAA, is $4.09, a 2-cent decrease from a week ago.

“Average gasoline prices were a mixed bag across the country last week as oil markets went on a wild ride, surging on geopolitical tensions before pulling back Sunday night after President Trump signaled a potential deal may be in the works. However, even as oil prices ease on deal optimism, continued Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil infrastructure are driving refined product prices higher as output plummets, keeping upward pressure on what Americans pay at the pump. By later this week, the national average could reach its highest level ever recorded for this point in the calendar year, a sobering milestone even as prices remain well below the all-time record set in 2022.”
