This Miami Beach bar pop-up closed. Now it’s coming back permanently

After closing last weekend, the Miami Beach cocktail bar that started as a pop-up but charmed a neighborhood has announced it’s coming back.

Created by James MacInnes, Stormy Monday on Alton Road opened as a pop-up in the former Macchialina space five months ago. It closed after service on July 26, but plans to reopen permanently Aug. 6.

MacInnes said the community’s reaction to and affection for the bar was evident.

“When we opened, we wanted to create the kind of neighborhood bar we always wished we had,” he said. “The response over the past few months has been incredible. It became clear pretty quickly that people wanted Stormy Monday to stick around.”

When the bar does reopen, it will have a new standing bar counter as well as some changes to the decor. There will also be more weekly programming that focuses on locals. Sure, everybody says that, but with a valid ID South Beach residents can get a Locals Card, which gets you 15 percent off every visit.

The bar bite menu is changing, too. Expect bites like croquetas with caviar, Waldorf Salad lettuce wraps, coconut shrimp cocktail and Old Bay French fries.

For August and September, the bar will offer a cocktail omakase for $45, which gets you three half-sized cocktails and two bites. And when it rains, Stormy Monday will serve $5 Dark and Stormys (dark rum, ginger beer and lime) until the rain stops. During Miami summer, that’s a deal.

Hours: 5 p.m.-1 a.m. Thursday-Saturday and Monday; 5-11 p.m. Sunday. Sunset hour 5-7 p.m. Wednesday-Monday with $10 cocktails, $12 bites, $8 wine and $5 beers.
