Early voting begins Monday in South Florida. Here’s what to know

Early voting for the primary election begins Monday across South Florida, giving voters an opportunity to cast their ballots ahead of Election Day.

Here is everything you need to know:

When does early voting begin?

Miami-Dade County

Early voting begins in Miami-Dade County on Monday, Aug. 3rd and ends on Sunday, Aug. 16th.

Times for early voting:

Monday, Aug. 3, to Friday, Aug. 7: 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 8, and Sunday, Aug. 9: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Monday, Aug. 10, to Friday, Aug. 14: 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 15, and Sunday, Aug. 16: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Broward County

Early voting begins in Broward County on Aug. 8th and ends on Aug. 16

Times for early voting:

10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

During early voting, Miami-Dade and Broward counties offer multiple voting locations.

What about a mail-in ballot?

The deadline to request a vote-by-mail ballot for the Aug. 18, election is 5:00 p.m. on Aug. 6. Completed vote-by-mail ballots must be received by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day. Ballots may be returned by mail, in person at a Supervisor of Elections office, or at any early voting location using an official secure ballot drop-off station.

What’s on the ballot?

Depending on where you live, your ballot may include races for governor, Congress, the Florida Legislature, local offices, judicial positions, and any local ballot measures. There are no statewide constitutional amendments on the August 2026 primary ballot.

Do I have to be a Democrat or Republican to vote?

Florida is a closed primary state. This means you can only vote in a political party’s primary election if you are registered with that party.

There is one exception. If all the candidates for an office belong to the same political party and the winner will not face anyone from another party in the general election, then all registered voters can vote in that primary, no matter what party they belong to. This is called a Universal Primary Contest.

Is there still time to register to vote in the election

In Florida, one must register to vote at least 29 days before an election. This means if you have yet to do so ahead of the Aug. 18 election, you do not qualify to vote.
